Common Gout Triggers and How to Track Them
Triggers vary. A useful diary records patterns without assuming every flare has one obvious food cause.
Medical note: This is general education, not individualized medical advice. Do not change prescribed medication based on this page.
Record the basics
Note flare timing, alcohol, unusually rich meals, hydration, illness and medication changes.
Look for repetition
One event is not proof. Repeated patterns are more informative and can be discussed with your clinician.
Don't delay care
A severe or unfamiliar painful, hot, swollen joint can have causes other than gout and may need prompt medical assessment.
